I love candy. I love it. And I love chocolate, and cookies, and cake, and ice cream. But more than anything else, I love doughnuts. This page is dedicated to all the enablers I know, who fill my life with doughnuts and other sweet, gooey, goodies.

If only Maxine and I had such an excuse

The contest

Yes. It's true. There was a doughnut eating contest.

We arrived at Krispy Kreme in perfect time for the doughnuts to stroll through the icing waterfall and for the HOT NOW sign to light up. We got two dozen, and they were .... perfect.

I finished my first four in five minutes or so, and then slowed down a little. Maxine plowed through her first five like it was nothing. And then the sugar high hit us and we were laughing uncontrollably at absolutely nothing. Cassi was photographed laying on the floor. And Maxine had to call Jodi for moral support.

And I held my own. I ate six. But Maxine reached across the table at the last minute and ate half of another from the spectators' dozen.

And so yes. It's true. I lost.

But I ate six hot krispy kremes in fifteen minutes. AND I ate one for breakfast this morning.

Cupcakes for breakfast

I had two. Because I made red velvet cupcakes for a 4th of July party, and they spent the entire day in my friend’s oven “so the cat won’t try to lick the frosting.” Maybe that was a completely legitimate reason, but I didn’t hear her using it on anyone else’s food. Nope, my cupcakes were in there all by themselves.

So at the end of the night, I pulled the cupcakes out of the oven, put on my best pathetic Katie face, and tried to guilt my friends into eating them. I had little success.

And so I decided to bring them to work today. I’m pretty much at the bottom of the food chain in my office, except when we have summer interns! And I take full advantage of having someone to boss around occasionally. So I put the cupcakes in the kitchen and gave the interns explicit orders about what to do next. If those interns know what’s best for them, they’ll eat cupcakes.
