I love candy. I love it. And I love chocolate, and cookies, and cake, and ice cream. But more than anything else, I love doughnuts. This page is dedicated to all the enablers I know, who fill my life with doughnuts and other sweet, gooey, goodies.

New York, New York

I gotta go to New York - SOON. Apparently, I've completely missed the real sites in the past.

The big apple is such a misnomer. I'm not eating any fruit while I'm there.

The morning news

I always wait until the last minute to get out of bed, get ready for work, and leave the house. Usually this means I'm stuck listening to NPR's business news from 7:50 to 8:00. It's my own fault - I could get up earlier and hear the interesting stories of political mudslinging and miserable failures from the White House*. But alas, it's an imperfect world.

So this morning I was listening to the business news, and got so excited by a story that came on about KRISPY KREME! But the story was something of a let-down. Apparently, Krispy Kreme is trying to get into the health-conscious market by introducing a whole wheat doughnut. I try not to second guess this company, which I believe has done so much good for the world of sugar addicts. But I'm just not sure that a whole wheat doughnut with 180 calories is really going to convince people that Krispy Kreme is a healthy place. AND, I'm not sure I want anyone to be under the false impression that it's a healthy place. Well, whatever. They didn't consult me on this decision. Here's the story. I report, you decide**.

*Google miserable failure. Seriously. Do it.

**I love you, Fox News.

I only ordered six boxes

It's girlscout cookie season and I only ordered six boxes. I believe I've made a terrible mistake. I ordered three thin mints, two samoas, and one all-around.

You may not recognize the all-around - it's a new addition to the girlscout cookie portfolio. I know some like to stick to the traditional, basic cookies, but not me. I'm a non-traditional woman. I will be in graduate school during my thirties, I have three chihuahuas, I am married to a woman, and I try the exciting new girlscout cookies. It's liberating.

So I've only ordered six boxes. Now, I'm not the type of cookie purchaser who buys extra and puts them in the freezer. No sirreebob, I do NOT freeze my girlscout cookies. They never survive that long. But six boxes isn't nearly enough to last me through the cookie season, much less the year. What to do?

Perhaps I can get up early on a Saturday and go girlscoutcookieing (sort of like yardsaling, only much more serious). Perhaps I'll have to survive on Edy's girlscout cookie ice cream - only available January through April, but totally freezable. Perhaps I can throw caution to the wind, quit my job, and get a gig at the girlscout cookie factory.
